ARTIST’S BIOGRAPHY

Of

Pat Mahan

  Born 1953
Middletonstoney, England

Raised in Nebraska

Now residing in Manhattan, MT

I realized very early that I was created to be an artist. My first formal training began at 9 years of age. For the past 20 years I have honed my skills as a traditional landscape painter. I have been blessed to be able to study with some of the best artists of our day. Everyone of them brought something important to the mix of my abilities and I am very grateful. I recently have asked myself a very tough question. As an artist, do I really only want to imitate nature? When my life is over, what will my contribution be to art as a whole? By only painting what I see, do I express what the creator designed me to do? So many ideas for creations beyond the canvas continually bombard my dreams. I feel pressed to express these before they are forgotten. For the past 5 years viewer participation is what I think about. How to more involve the viewer in the final product beyond how art is utilized and appreciated to date. It is my desire to be the inventor of new methods to engage the art audience. I am blessed to be able to express myself in multiple ways. The latest being through "dddesigns". This is what true creating is all about!

I owned a gallery for 6 years entertaining tourists from around the world. My work is in private and corporate collections. In 2000 and 2002, I showed in the Museum of Nebraska Art and was included in their permanent collection. In 2002 and 2004, I was included in the Yellowstone Art Museum Annual Auction and the Art Expo in New York City. Just recently, St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, MT purchased 9 landscape paintings for their collection. To date I have enjoyed 10 one woman shows, "Time -Honored" in 2006 is the latest.
